The After-Care Centre is situated on the school property. This facility is open throughout the term and during the school holidays, except for a period from mid-December until the day prior to the start of Term One in January.
Twice yearly, the children in Grades Six and Seven take part in a Children's Council election. The candidates, who are all nominated by their classmates, organise their own election campaigns. The Councillors are elected by secret ballot and serve for two school terms.
The Council elections provide the children with opportunities to learn about the basics of the democratic process and of citizenship. Once elected, the Councillors meet with the Principal and certain members of staff a few times every term.
IRG is a mainstream primary school. Accordingly, the school has limited facilities to cater for children with specialised educational needs. Should you require information about organisations and schools which are able to provide such specialised help, please contact the Principal.
The school employs a full-time remedial educator for children in the Foundation Phase (Grades One to Three). In addition, extra lessons are held during the extramural programme for children who need assistance in areas such as English and Mathematics. There are no charges for these services. Where a child needs intensive remediation, parents are advised to make private arrangements with the appropriate specialist, for example, occupational therapist.
So much education of true value occurs beyond the school gates. Accordingly, the children are taken on day trips and educational tours. The children from Grade One to Grade Six go on about one day tour each term. Visits are made to places such as the zoo, planetarium, airport, television studio or snake park.
Educational tours lasting from three to five days are arranged for children from Grade Four upwards. The tours are to places such as the Drakensberg, Magaliesberg and the Bushveld.
The school has an extensive range of modern audio-visual equipment. There are well-equipped computer, design and technology and music rooms as well as a science laboratory. The school has an Information Technology Centre, which includes a controlled-access Internet facility.
The school has extensive playing fields. There are two cricket fields, five cricket nets and a full-sized athletics track. Three soccer fields and three netball courts are on site. There are a number of tennis courts. The school is privileged to have the use of a municipal pool about a kilometre away. Physical education swimming lessons and galas are held at this venue.
The overall governance of the school is carried out by the Governing Body, which includes the Principal in her ex-officio capacity. Other members of staff also serve on the Governing Body. It is a statutory body elected in accordance with regulations promulgated by the Department of Education. The Governing Body convenes at least once a term to discuss the overall progress of the school.
A star theme has been chosen for the names of the School Houses:
S - Scorpio
T - Taurus
A - Aquila
R - Regulus
Second-hand items of school uniform and sport dress may be bought from the Outgrown Uniform Shop. The shop is open on a Tuesday from 13:00 to 14:00.
The parent community elects parents to represent them on the PA. Members of the professional staff also serve on the Association. The PA meets monthly. It is a fund-raising body. Many of the fine facilities of the school are directly attributable to the enthusiastic endeavours of the PA.
Every child is expected to be attired correctly - in every respect - when attending school. The correct school uniform or kit is to be worn for all evening and sports functions.

Please ensure that all items of school uniform, tog bags, sportswear, etc. are clearly marked with your child's name.
Snack lunches and refreshments can be bought at the tuckshop. The food may be enjoyed at the adjacent Tuckshop Piazza.
