CURRICULA
The school follows the broad curriculum requirements as stipulated by the Gauteng Department of Education.
There are eight Learning Areas with a cross-curricula emphasis. These are:
1) Languages
2) Social Sciences
3) Mathematics
4) Technology
5) Natural Sciences
6) Arts and Culture
7) Economic and Management Sciences
8) Life Orientation
LEARNING PHASES
Foundation Phase (Grades R to Three)
The main focus of the Foundation Phase is numeracy, literacy and life skills proficiency. Included in the Foundation Phase programme is Art, Computer Skills, Music, Physical Education, as well as Beginning Knowledge and Personal and Social Well-Being.
Intermediate Phase (Grades Four to Six)
Senior Phase (Grade Seven)
The curriculum encompasses the abovementioned eight Learning Areas. In addition to the eight Learning Areas, Entrepreneurship and Thinking Skills are also facilitated to the Grade Sevens.
Sex Education is also included as part of the curriculum from Grade Four to Seven. The content is differentiated to accommodate both the age and maturity of the learners. Interested parents are welcome to attend separate discussion sessions with the professional staff. Aspects of the curriculum are outlined in these sessions.
Computer lessons are held weekly for all grades in the Computer Centre. The aim of the computer skills programme is to foster a community of computer literacy.
All grades engage in Circle Time, which is aimed at nurturing interpersonal relationships and friendships within the school community.These sessions are usually facilitated by the homeroom teacher and emphasis is placed on assisting learners to develop the necessary values and attitudes for a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
HOMEWORK
In the Foundation Phase homework is given from Monday to Thursday to Grades One to Three. The homework comprises of daily written work and reading or reading words.
In the Intermediate Phase daily homework is given as well as assessment projects. The following is a guideline for the allocation of homework time in the Intersen Phase:
Grades Four and Five - three-quarters of an hour
Grade Six - One and a quarter hours
Grade Seven - One and a half hours
CYCLE TESTS AND EXAMINATIONS
A policy of continous assessment is followed throughout the year to assess the academic development of each learner.
From Grade Four to Seven regular cycle tests are written. However, in June and November Grade Six and Seven learners sit for formal written examinations. At the end of each term learners receive a report informing parents and guardians of their academic progress.
"Let's look at my work" nights are held at the end of Terms One and Two, where learners and parents meet with the educators to discuss progress.
EXTRAMURAL ACTIVITIES
Tennis, Athletics, Soccer, Netball, Cricket, Cross Country, Computer Club, Arts and Crafts, Media Research, Hockey, Ballroom Dancing, Gumboot Dancing, Drama, Chess, Choir, Public Speaking, Hockey
School hats and sunscreen are to be worn for all outdoor activities. Teams are to wear the correct sporting attire for matches and practices.
